Pulsed Dye Laser and Pulsed Dye Laser–Mediated Photodynamic Therapy in the Treatment of Dermatologic Disorders
Mon, 23 Jan 2012 05:00:00 +0100 | Dermatologic Surgery
ConclusionsPDL is accepted as firstâ€line therapy for vascular disorders including portâ€wine stains, telangiectasias, and hemangiomas. PDL causes selective photothermolysis of dermal vasculature. This mechanism also allows it to be applicable for disorders of other etiologies. Recent studies suggest that the PDL may induce cytokine expression and collagen formation, further increasing its applicability in dermatology. (Source: Dermatologic Surgery)
The successful treatment of flat warts with auricular acupuncture
Tue, 17 Jan 2012 17:44:03 +0100 | International Journal of Dermatology
Conclusions  Our findings suggest that auricular acupuncture may be a viable alternative for the treatment of flat warts. Larger randomized studies are needed to fully evaluate auricular acupuncture against more conventional treatments, and these are planned. (Source: International Journal of Dermatology)

Whorled hairless nevus of the scalp, linear hyperpigmentation, and telangiectatic nevi of the lower limbs: A novel variant of the “phacomatosis complexâ€
Fri, 13 Jan 2012 05:00:00 +0100 | American Journal of Medical Genetics Part A
We report on an 8â€yearâ€old boy with striking right hemihypoplasia, resulting in limb asymmetry and fixed dislocation of right hip. Skin on the affected side showed three distinct nevi: (i) A whorled, hairless nevus of the scalp in close proximity with (ii) epidermal hyperpigmentation following lines of Blaschko on the neck and right upper limb, and (iii) multiple telangiectatic nevi of the right lower limb and hemiscrotum. Didymosis atrichoâ€melanotica was proposed for the combination of adjacent patchy congenital alopecia and linear hyperpigmentation, while phacomatosis atrichoâ€pigmentoâ€vascularis appears to define the entire cutaneous phenotype, thus implying the involvement of three neighboring loci influencing the development of distinct constituents of the skin. Given the str...
Left Ventricular Failure due to a Rare Variant of Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia
Mon, 09 Jan 2012 19:33:48 +0100 | Indian Journal of Pediatrics
Abstract “Hypertensive†variant of congenital adrenal hyperplasia is rare. The authors describe an interesting case of a 6-y-old boy
who presented with an acute respiratory illness and progressive breathlessness since 1 y. Genital hyperpigmentation was noticed
since 2 y of age; the onset of pubarche and increasing penile size at 4 y. He was admitted in congestive cardiac failure with
a blood pressure of 150/100 mm Hg. Facial acne; slight facial, pubic hair and penile enlargement were additionally noted.
Chest radiograph revealed cardiomegaly. Basal ACTH and 17-OHP levels were high. A diagnosis of congenital adrenal hyperplasia
(11β-hydroxylase deficiency) was made due to hypertension with virilized genitalia. Cardiac failure was controlled with flui...
Effect of hesperetin on tyrosinase: Inhibition kinetics integrated computational simulation study.

Abstract
Tyrosinase inhibitors have potential applications in medicine, cosmetics and agriculture to prevent hyperpigmentation or browning effects. Some of the flavonoids mostly found in herbal plants and fruits are revealed as tyrosinase inhibitors. We studied the inhibitory effects of one such flavonoid, hesperetin, on mushroom tyrosinase using inhibition kinetics and computational simulation. Hesperetin reversibly inhibited tyrosinase in a competitive manner with K(i)=4.03±0.26mM. Measurements of ANS-binding fluorescence showed that hesperetin induced the hydrophobic disruption of tyrosinase. For further insight, we used the docking algorithms to simulate binding between tyrosinase and ...
